Dragon Dollar Distribution Center

As part of our PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) program at KES, students can earn “Dragon Dollars” when a faculty or staff member notices them being Ready, Respectful or Responsible at school. The students save those dollars to purchase things from the Dragon Dollar Store – items like silly bands, bubbles, coupons for lunch with Mr. Butcher, and tickets to school-wide events like our Tailgating Party.

My class is in charge of collecting the orders, packaging items for delivery, and counting the dragon dollars (then redistributing the dollars to the teachers for reuse). I have dubbed our little operation the “Dragon Dollar Distribution Center”.

This past week was our first on the job. All students in the school had their orders turned in by Wednesday, and on Thursday some PTO volunteers came in to help us. We packaged silly bands, tattoos, bubbles and coupons in baggies and matched them to the order forms, sorted the order forms by teacher and had the items ready for delivery. Parent volunteers (the Unequalled ParentS – or UPS – delivery service) took the packages to the classrooms Friday afternoon.

When all was said and done, we had packaged over 600 silly bands, 150 bottles of bubbles, 120 tattoos, and 100 coupons (ice cream passes, lunch with Mr Frame or Mr Butcher and homework passes)!

Because it was our first day, things were pretty hectic and I didn’t get as many photos and video as I would have liked – but here is a little taste of our busy little “warehouse”!

On Friday, my students went to work at Dragon Community Bank – counting over 4000 dragon dollars. First we made sets of $10 and then we grouped 5 sets of $10 together to make bundles of $50.

I am so proud of my workers!!!!
